Yina’s passion for birds began in 2015 and gradually developed into a career dedicated to sharing Panama’s extraordinary biodiversity with others. She has a degree in Ecological and Geographical Tourism from the University of Panama.

Over the years, she has gained extensive field experience birding and guiding across different regions of Panama, including the forests of the Panama Canal area, Pipeline Road, El Valle de Antón, Cerro Azul, and the Darién. Her interests extend beyond birds to butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and the many fascinating interactions that make tropical ecosystems so diverse.

Yina also enjoys wildlife photography, using it as another way to document and share the species she encounters in the field. As a guide with the Canopy Family, she especially enjoys helping guests discover not only Panama’s birds, but the broader natural history and stories behind the landscapes they explore.

She is also part of Euphonias Team, a group of women birders supported by Audubon Panama.
